Wedding Photography

Here are some of the more common questions I'm asked:
Do you travel for weddings?
Yes, I love to travel, and have travelled to many different parts of the world for photographic work.
Do you shoot on digital or film?
Digital is by far the best option, but I am equipped to accommodate special requests for work to be done on film.
Do you shoot in colour or black & white?
All photography is done in RAW format in colour, from which the black & white copies are created. A light-sepia or antique finish are options instead of black & white, which you will receive alongside your colour photos.
What camera equipment do you use? Do you have a back-up?
I am a lifelong fan of Canon, and you'll find a list of my equipment here. Between myself & the assistant photographer, there will be no fewer than three camera's, three external flashes and a multitude of lenses (wide-angle, standard & telephoto) on-site at every wedding. Provision is made for every kind of equipment failure.
How do I make a booking?
- Contact me to check availability.
- We will organise a booking interview, where we can discuss options, and I'll get to understand you and your requirements.
- Where possible, we can organise an obligation-free Engagement Shoot.
- A 50% non-refundable deposit will secure your booking.
- We will have an additional meeting to finalise smaller points & requests.
- I will scout the venue, and also liaise with the wedding planner, priest and/or MC beforehand.
Do you work with a second photographer?
Yes, within 100km from Stellenbosch. For other locations, this will have to be discussed & costed alongside the additional travel & logistics costs.
Will mine be the only wedding you shoot on that day?
Yes, you will receive my full commitment for your wedding day.
How do you schedule your timing?
For a typical wedding, I like to time my shooting as follows:
- Decor: At least 30 min. I prefer to do this in my own time at the beginning of the day.
- Bride getting ready, make-up, etc: 1 - 2 hours. Where logistically possible, will do the groom as well.
- Ceremony: Full duration, including entry, exit (confetti, etc) & a group shot.
- Group & family: 15 – 30 min. A list of required group shots will help to get these done swiftly.
- Couple: 1 hour. This is where I will get some awesome photos of the two of you. We'll do this at a scenic location away from the crowd, where you will be able to feel comfortable for some memorable shots. These shouldn't be rushed. Time can also be made for ad-hoc scenes en-route to the reception, or at other special locations.
- Reception, speeches, formalities & dancing: Until the agreed time, with a break for dinner.
Do you do table shots?
I recommend these are done with the bride & groom visiting each table, where they can toast & pose in a swift organised manner. I can also suggest you dedicate a special location for group photos, perhaps with a couch where you will be able to pose with your guests. As it's regarded as rude & intrusive, I don't go around taking table photos on my own.
Do you do other individual shots?
You should supply me with a list of important people & couples, and I will ensure that these people are photographed at least once at various times or at special moments through your wedding. I also like to capture people listening intently at the ceremony, and enjoying the speeches & reception.
Do you offer coffee table books and albums?
There are a multitude of options available within a wide price range. I have dedicated designers who will produce that special album just for you.
What's with the complementary recipe book?
This is an awesome additional touch. Along with your photos, you will receive a complementary recipe book. This will be personalised to your taste & preferences, and will be decorated with a selection of your wedding photos.
Can I make my own prints?
Yes, the photos on your DVD are neither protected nor watermarked, and you can make additional prints as you wish.
Do you use lighting equipment?
I prioritise the use of natural light, where necessary use fill-in flash, and for night shots I like to use several strategically placed remotely operated flashes.
How do you dress for the weddings?
I will discuss this with you at booking, but I typically respect the wedding's dress code and choose to not stand out.
Do you delegate your photographic work?
I will always be the chief photographer, and never delegate my contracts out.
Do you only specialise in weddings?
I also do family, engagement, pets, landscape & wildlife photography.
My friend is a budding photographer, can he/she accompany you as you work?
As this could compromise my day's work, I have a strict policy against this and have a contractual clause preventing other people from using professional photographic equipment at your wedding. On rare exceptions, this must be discussed well in advance, he/she will have to act under my instruction and must be willing to step back or completely cease activities on my request. |
